Summertime Skin Care Tips

This summer, have the best skin ever! Follow these tips for great looking, healthy skin!

  1. Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage. Use sunscreen and wear a wide brimmed hat and light colored clothing to cover arms and legs.  Avoid being out between 11 am and 3 pm when the sun’s rays are the most direct and damaging.  Also, wear sunglasses with UV protection when you’re spending time outdoors.  Use a self tanner instead of baking in the sun or in a tanning booth.  Tanning lotion can help you avoid cancer causing sun damage or tanning bed damage.
  2. Use mild soap. Homemade soaps are the best for sensitive skin, since they don’t contain harsh chemicals.  All of our soaps can be made with no dyes or fragrances upon request for the most sensitive skin.  Look for products with Aloe Vera in them (our Aloe & Olive Oil Seafoam soap is a naturally gentle exfoliating soap with real aloe)
  3. Exercise and drink plenty of water to control cellulite. Make sure to rinse off afterwards to keep pores from becoming blocked.  Many people are more proned to getting acne in the summer time.
  4. Pat skin dry. Don’t rub vigorously.  Just pat skin gently with a towel to dry off.
  5. Moisturize. Use a lightweight moisturizer (try our shea butter & aloe lotion) rather than body butter (which is great for winter).  Moisturize skin right after drying off to help keep skin moist.  If you lose your natural skin oils, the body will work even harder to make more, leaving you with oily skin.
  6. Removing makeup.  Remove makeup with cotton balls.  Be gentle so you don’t harm the delicate skin around your eyes.  Make sure you use lightweight makeup or even just powder.  It’s best to find makeup with built in sunblock, too.
